About the Centers for Advanced Studies

The USAID-sponsored U.S.-Pakistan Centers for Advanced Studies created new centers in Pakistan focusing on energy and water issues.

The U.S.-Pakistan Centers for Advanced Studies in Energy, USPCASE, is a partnership between Arizona State University (ASU) and National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar along with partner Oregon State University (OSU), focused on finding solutions to energy production, with an emphasis on renewable energy and energy production in remote areas, energy storage and transmission, and energy policy.

The U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water, USPCASW, is a partnership between the University of Utah and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) focused on safe and reliable drinking water, improved performance of water and wastewater utilities, wastewater treatment, efficient water use and resilient and sustainable water management.

The centers are charged with creating a modern, relevant curriculum relevant and responsive to industry workforce needs; jump-starting applied research to address local issues; building sustainable programs, networks and governance structures for the centers; and creating exchange programs that bring students and faculty from Pakistan to the United States to study and do research in established water and energy programs and build an international network of colleagues.
